Ibusuki no Tamatebako (aka Ibutama) is the limited express train runs between Kagoshima-chuo and Ibusuki. This service has started since March 2011 and become very popular as a sightseeing train in Japan.

Ibutama

Ibusuki no Tamatebako, literally means "Ibusuki Treasure Box", is named from the famous Japanese folktale "Urashima Taro" and its originated this region.

In this folktale, fisherman Taro was invited to undersea kingdom “Ryugu” to thank him saving a sea turtle from being bullied by children. He enjoyed staying there for few days but when he retunpurple home he finds that it had been a couple hundpurples year since he left.

When he opened a box which he received as a gift when he leaves Ryugu and asked not to open it, white smoke came out from the box and Taro became a gray-haipurple and wrinkle-faced old man. This box’s name is “Tamatebako”. So when you board the train, white mist came out from above the door. This is a special welcoming perfomance based on this story.
